Brief Description: Catch "pan" to catch fuel spills
If you build the firewall area per the plans (photo #1), any fuel that spills here goes directly into the cockpit!! I find that atrocious! So I, like others, decided to build a "pan" to catch spills and dump them via a tube, out the bottom of the cowl.
Also, the old style fuel tanks used to have rubber stoppers (best way I can describe them) for fuel caps. Lots of people have had trouble with them leaking. So it looks like Sonex changed the design to a screw-on fuel cap (photo #2). I think this will be much better!
In photo #3 I removed (drilled out the rivets) the two fuel tank stops from under the glare shield. I already verified their position holds the tank in place, but since I will need to install and remove the fuel tank several times, I needed an easier way to do so. I will put the stops back in later, after the tank is in place.
Any fuel that spills here, goes directly into the cockpit! BAD!
New style cap is a screw-on! I like it!
