Brief Description:  Welded cockpit controls

A real wasted evening. Very frustrating.

Got all the welded parts for the dual cockpit controls. Tried to assemble but I don't have half the hardware I need. I ordered everything from the Sonex hardware list, but still all the necessary hardware is not there. So I moved onto the rudder cables...

I bought the pre-swaged rudder cables from Sonex. Guess what? They are WAY too big to fit through the 4 fairleads installed in the fuselage (photo below)! If you have put these fairleads together on your project then you know how nearly impossible it is to remove the wire rings that hold the 2 halves of the fairleads together! It's near impossible on the workbench. I can't even imagine trying to do it when installed in the airplane!! I think I will have to return the cables to Sonex and make my own. Then I can run the cable first, and then swage the fittings on the end of the cables afterward. It's about $40 for a cheap swaging tool, but I know someone who has one.

I did make the second rudder return spring and installed it on the fuselage. When I went to install it to the rudder pedals I again found I did not have the hardware necessary. Frustrating.
