Brief Description:  Wheel pant anchors

Last night was the left wheel pant, tonight it was the right. Again I used Rivnuts set in the backing plate, to hold the wheel pant screws.

In my post yesterday I wondered if I needed to cut down my axle spacers to get the backing plate and brake shoes fully inside the drums. I sent photos and asked Sonex, and Kerry said, yes, cut the spacers to the right length.

In photo 2, one of the two spacers has been cut and finished smooth. Later I prime painted the spacers. Tomorrow will be a 2nd coat, and then new black paint after that.

But cutting the spacers (one was cut 1/4", and the other was cut 3/16") means that the axle nuts that hold the wheels on, will be farther down the axle threads, and now the cotter pin hole will be OUTSIDE the castleated nut. I really don't want to drill another hole in the axle, so I'm going to buy some stainless washers that have a 3/4" diameter inside hole, to set the nut off the wheel far enough to reuse the existing cotter pin holes.
