Brief Description: Left wheel...continuing
|
|
As with all things homebuilt, this is taking a lot longer than I had expected. This is all just for the left wheel/axle assembly.
- I was having trouble getting the axle square with the brake back plate. The little tab at the bottom of the axle tube had to be bent down a little, and a thin washer added, to get it to true out. This took a LOT of trial and error, but I finally got it as true as it's ever going to get.
- Then I put the wheel, bearings, and axle together, and spun on the huge castle nut to hold the wheel in place. Then I marked the axle the the cotter pin hole, and drilled it on the drill press (see photo #3).
So the only thing left to do on the left assembly is to tap the end of the axle for the bolt that will later hold the wheel pants in place.
- I started on the right wheel/axle assembly. I think I got the axle trued to the back plate, but something is not turning true. The brake pads rub pretty heavily in one location. I'll have to figure it out tomorrow.
I HIT 1,701 HOURS TONIGHT.
