Drilled the axle assemblies and gear legs. The toe-in was set a couple of weeks ago, before I left for Airventure.
- Set the left gear/axle assembly under the COBALT 1/4" drill bit, centered on the previously drilled axle tube pilot hole.
- Used lots of miscellaneous thicknesses of wood to support both ends of the assembly (photo #1 & #2).
- Drilled through the axle tube and gear in one shot with the cobalt bit (no pilot holes), as suggested by Sonex (and it works great). I drill a littl, flood the hole with cutting fluid, drill some more, flood the hole with cutting fluid, etc.
- Removed the axle assemblies and cleaned up the holes with the deburring tools and some fine sandpaper. Finished products in photo #2.
Lots of odd wood thicknesses to get everthing supported and level
Drilling through the axle tube and the gear leg at the same time
