Brief Description:  Tail wheel installation

I am installing a larger 6" (plans call for 4") tail wheel. This requires a larger tailwheel bracket, which I got from Kip Lowrie. He had someone make a bunch of them and sold them to whomever wanted one.

- Located and drilled the 2nd hole through the titanium landing gear rod.

- Secured the landing gear rod (spring) with a thru-bolt at the fuselage end (photo #1), then attached the pivot fitting to the rod with another thru-bolt (photo #2).

- Next installed the tail wheel bracket with a bolt and castlated nut and cotter pin (photo #2).

- I test fit the tail wheel push rod, but I really don't like that way the plans show to do it. I have heard of the bolt holes at either end of the push rod (actually the rudder horn and tail wheel bracket they are attached to) enlarging due to sloppy play over time. I am going to investigate using rod-end ball joints, as I believe some others have used. So I'll stop here with the tail wheel for the time being.
