Brief Description: Rudder hing layout and drilling
Just like the elevators completed previously...
There is an offset for the rudder hinge from one corner of the rudder. My english/metric scale is just the right thickness, so I flipped the rudder on its hypotenuse surface, put the scale down on the table, and set the hinges from that (see photos from the elevator build).
To keep the hing in place I used little rectangles of double sided carpet tape along the hinge (photo #1) and stuck the hinge to the rudder face. Just to make sure the hinge holes stayed aligned, I immediately traced my red Sharpie inside every hole. That way I would know if the hinge shifted at all during handling and drilling. The red circles let me keep it aligned as I worked along the hinge (photo #2).
After sticking the hinge in place I drilled pilot holes through the hinge holes and into the rudder skin (photo #3).
Tomorrow will be updrilling and deburring everything.
