Finished making the elevator horn: - cleco'd the horn to the ribs - riveted The left side of the horn is why you really need to read the plans carefully. There are the two flush rivets for the anchor nut, but there are ALSO two MORE flush rivets just above the nut. It's an easy detail to have missed. I found it only tonight, before riveting. I never saw it all the other times I read the plans.
This finishes T-07!
To attach the elevator horn I needed to set the elevators flush with each other at their leading edge, and with the outboard faces at 78" apart. So I screwed two angles to the work bench at each end, at 78" apart. And then I clamped a straight edge to the bench, perpendicular to the angles. Pushing the elevators against the angles set the spacing at the center of the elevator assembly (see photo 2 below).
Now I centered the elevator horn assembly, drilled and cleco'd. Photo 3 shows the assembly before drilling the ribs of the horn assembly.
On the next Kitlog page (same date) are photos of the cleco'd assembly.
Before alignment: Test fit horn assembly. Now need to pull clecos from top surface
Alignment: angles @ each end; straight edge clamped to work table
