Brief Description:  Layout of vert stab

Started laying out the vert stab. It's not an easy assembly to lay out!

I tried scanning the tail from the Sonex drawing, blowing it up to scale in my CAD program, and plotting it out to use as a background (see photos). But it didn't work at all. The drawing has some definite inacuracies, including the angle of the leading edge (way off). So I instead just used the plot paper to draw the actual dimensions in RED, as taken off the drawing.

Once I did that I nailed wood blocks to the work table, along the outside edges of the channels. Note that the ends of the two spars are hanging off the table. Those ends of the spars flare out so that the channels could not lie flat on the work table, so I had to let them hang off so the rest of the spars/channels could lie flat.

I laid out the ribs made from channels, and found they were all too long. The perfectly matched the dimensions on the drawing sheet they came from, but when laid out where the tail drawing said they should go, they are too long. Just to verify, I placed the channels where they would fit at their specified length, and then overlaid the skin that I had already cut out and drilled with holes. The holes in the skin didn't even overlap the ribs, so never would have worked!

I adjusted the length of the channels and laid them out where they were dimensionally correct per the tail plan. When I laid the skin over the framework, everything worked perfectly. So I know it's not me!

Anyway, it took me 3 hours just to get to this point, and I haven't even clamped anything or drilled a hole. It is going to be a BEAR to get this clamped for drilling.
