Brief Description:  Setback!

I finished installing the hardware at the root of the W12-01L rear wing spar. So far, so good. But when I went to install the tip support I found my spar to be 1/2" too short, and to make matters worse, the hole in the end of the spar, and the line of rivet holes next to it, were off as well!

History: I made my rear wing spars in 1 piece on my homemade bending brake. This kept me from needing the splice plate shown on sheet W12.

Damn! I know I measured several times, but somehow this got by me! And of course both spars have the same mistake, so I somehow managed a repeat performance. When adding the dimensions between the two spar sections to total one long section, somehow I got the numbers wrong... garbage in, garbage out...

After I got done swearing I took stock. The rest of the spar was OK, and I had just spent hours making and attaching all the hardware at the root of the first spar. So I simply cut off the end of the spar where it was originally shown in the drawings. I'm now in the process of making the end of the spar, with the splice plate that I had been hoping to avoid.

So fortunately I struck out, but still got a save out of it. It's just going to take me a number of hours to get back on track.
