Brief Description: Fwd fuselage side panels + bottom skin
|
|
- First I disassembled the right hand side panel installed last night, so I could then turn the fuselage around on my work bench. The bench has my bending brake on it, which I will need again soon, so I needed to rotate the fuselage to work on the left side skin, opposite from the brake.
- I installed and pilot drilled for the left panel, just as I did for the right panel, yesterday.
- The I needed to install the forward fuselage bottom skin. Since I took the fuselage off the sawhorses and placed on the workbench I needed to elevate the fuselage so I could get to the underside. I did so by placing two 2x4's under the rear fuselage, and letting one side of the bottom skin overhang the workbench (photo #1).
- I clamped the front of the skin in alignment with the lower motor mount bracket per the plans (photo #2). Then I aligned on edge of the skin and began pilot drilling and cleco'ing (photo #1).
- Then I moved to the other side. But the brake was in the way so I simply propped the 2x4's under the fuselage, on top of the bending brake angles and let it hang out far enough to do the work (photo #3).
- Holding up the bottom skin so it was not sagging I pilot drilled the holes in the other longeron.
