Brief Description:  4 Aft tailcone assembly

Next it was onto locating the F23-01 Tail Wheel/Skid Mount. This needs to be located and cleco'd in place on the Lower Vertical Fin Post before going further with the innards of the tailcone, since the location of the small plate (foreground in photo #1) will establish the location of other parts in the tailcone.

4a. Remove the Lower Vertical Fin Post from the tailcone. Mark a line 3-1/16 up from the bottom of the Post, per "Detail of -02" on plans.

NOTE: I did it the hard way. I put the -01 mount at the aft face of the channel, just like it will be when finally installed. But the long leg of the -01 mount (foreground of photo #1) makes getting a drill in there, difficult. I used a 12" bit and let teh drill bit bend to get around the mount, but if I had just measured 3-1/16" up on the FORWARD face (that's what you see in photo #1; the forward face), then I could have drilled from the other side and not had anything in the way. Imagine photo #2 with the black plate on the other side of the channel.

4b. Align the F23-01 mount against the measured line, and try to keep the vertical edges parallel with the channel flanges. Clamp in place.

4c. Drill all 6 pilot holes. Again, if you just start the 6 holes you can them remove the -01 mount and finish them on your bench.

5. Drill the 6 corresponding holes in the F21-02 spacer. Since it's only a spacer its edges don't need to align exactly. Use the Lower Vertical Fin Post once again as a template. Locate the spacer on the forward face of the Post, clamp in place, and drill the 6 pilot holes.

6. Temporarily install the Post, Mount and spacer with long reach clecos, per photo #3.
