Brief Description:  Wing Rigging #5

Words of wisdom for this method of using drill guides in the wing blocks:

OIL THE GUIDES BEFORE YOU PUT THEM IN THE WING BLOCKS!!! We did not do that on the first pin and had a DEVIL of a time getting the damn thing out with a pair of vice grips and a LOT of elbow grease! When we oiled the second guide in the other wing blocks, it went in and out with relative ease.

On this page:

- Inserted the drill guide in the left wing blocks, until it hit the forward fuselage attach angle at the forward edge of the spar tunnel.

- With the guide in place, I drilled through the spar tunnel and the attach angle in a few seconds. The hole in the attach angle can be seen in photo #2.

This under-sized guide hole in the spar tunnel and attach angle are now perfectly centered on the 3/8" wing block holes, and can be updrilled after taking the wings out and putting them away.

- We did the same thing on the right hand side.

- Now we pulled out the drill guides and installed (WITH OIL!) new drill guides that were slightly shorter than the total thickness of the two wing blocks.

- Tha allows us to cleco the REAR spar tunnel assembly and the REAR fuselage attach angles in place.

- Photo #3: Now we used the new holes in the FORWARD attach angle and the FORWARD spar tunnel, with the drill guides inside the spar blocks, to back-drill through the REAR spar tunnel and REAR attach angle.

This again gives us under-sized guide holes in the spar tunnel and attach angle that are now perfectly centered on the 3/8" wing block holes, and can be updrilled after taking the wings out and putting them away.

- We removed the clecos and removed the REAR attach angles and REAR spar tunnel assembly.

- To get the temporary drill guides OUT of the spar blocks, we used a drill bit sized between 1/4" and 3/8" to make the hole in the FORWARD attach angle ONLY (do not drill into the spar block!). Now I used a 3/16" diameter bolt as a punch, to tap the drill guides out of the spar blocks.

NOW ITS' TIME TO PUT EVERYTHING
