Brief Description:  Left Wing - Locatel nose ribs

I began locating, drilling and cleco'ing the nose ribs. I'm locating the ribs faster and easier this time by using a different method.

1. Draw lines on the spar caps, centered on the web pilot holes (picture #1).
2. Draw a centering line down the rib flange that sits against the spar web. This is mainly to do a double-check after I have visually centered the rib on the spar cap line (see step 5), and clamped it in place.
3. With the spar flat as in the photos below, put a rib against the spar web, use an .025 piece to align the top edge of the rib per the Sonex plans.
4. While holding the rib in place (aligned top-to-bottom, and as described in step 3), Use 2 long clamps to hold the rib flange in place.
5. Tip the spar over 90 deg so the ribs are facing AWAY from you. Now sight through the spar web pilot holes and see if the centering line on the rib flange is roughly in the center of the pilot holes.
6. If all looks good, carefully drill one hole into the rib flange, through the web pilot hole, and cleco in place. Now do the same for the other 5 holes.

You only need 2 clecos per rib to hold everything in place. I use the holes that are 2nd away from the spar caps.
