Brief Description:  Right Wing - Test fits + W23-08

Mostly I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to best go about the next several steps. There is more than one way to skin the cat, as I see by several web sites. Although Sonex maintains that their plans are so complete that no instruction manuals are needed, I have found the wing processes, at least, do NOT fall into that category! Fully half my time tonight was just walking around, looking, reading pages from builder web sites, and scratching my head.

First of all, the various parts and pieces do not fall in order on the plans (Sonex's method of making high sheet numbers the first thing you do, and the low numbers the last, still boggles my mind), and the "steps" noted on the plans are woefully lacking in detail or adequate description. A dozen photos of some of these critical steps, and a short description of WHY we do certain things, would go a long way.

The second picture shows the wing spar supported on 2x4's so that the trailing edges of the rear ribs are lying flat on the table. I then put the rear spar up against the ribs to see how the ribs aligned with the flanges of the rear spar channel, and then laid one of the wing skins I'd previously made and drilled, to see how it all lined up.

I bent my own rear spar channels, so I knew they wouldn't be perfect. I will need to bend one leg just a bit more in places, and to make a couple of shims in a couple of places, to get the skin and hinges to lie properly on the spar, but nothing major.

Anyhow, I also located, updrilled an riveted the four W23-08 pitot/static port hose supports to the #1 - #4 ribs.
