Brief Description:  Root rib mod + spacer layout

In order to get to the control hardware when the wings are installed, many builders have opened the 2 holes in the #1 root rib into 1 hole to allow easier access for your hands. So I did that tonight for both the right and left #1 root ribs.

I just drew 2 lines to connect the flanges, snipped out along the lines, and used the seaming pliers to bend the area between the holes. This mod, without reinforcing, has been OK'd by the engineers at Sonex.

Next I started laying out the W14-02 and -03 spar spacers for drilling. To hold them in place without having to constantly clamp and unclamp for drilling, I used the double-sided carpet tape to stick both pieces to the spar web. Once they were all stuck on, I flipped the spar over, put some wood backing pieces under the spacers, and drilled through the spacers using the already-in-place holes on the opposite side of the spar (see pictures on next page).
