Brief Description:  Test fit of wing spar caps

Now that I have the spar caps it's time to do a test fit to see how they fit. Since I'm scratch building, and built the spar webs without the spar caps on hand, I needed to see if the dimensions were going to work out.

All in all, pretty good! When cinched in with a clamp the spar caps are too close together, which is good. That means the sandwich has the proper room for the spars to be spaced outward.

I prepped the right spar caps per the instructions (removal of burrs, tool marks, stress risers, etc.).

This wing spar certainly is the "tank" that others have noted.

Since the Sonex spar cap spacers don't work for scratch builders, I'm going to build a "saddle" as some others have done, to hold the proper dimension for the spars while drilling.
