Brief Description:  1 day, 2 of 3 flights

July 19, 2014 (Flight #7)
• Took the airplane out early in the morning Saturday.
• Took of with +/- 17 gal of fuel. First time with full fuel.
• Hobbs: 5.5 to 6.9 = 1.4 hrs
• Flew to Gardner (GDM) to meet Howard Miller and see his Sonex (was John Lavoie’s).
• On the way back, did L/R spins. 500’ altitude loss, and recovery in less than one turn.
o I really had a hard time making the plane spin! You have to do it right or it just mushes into a slow turn.
o So you really have to mess up your angle of attack to get the thing to stall.
• Did 45-60 deg steep turns, and wingovers.
• Landed 6B6 and added fuel (3.4 gal).
• Ian Clark flew his Sonex in and we had a late breakfast and caught up on things.

July 19, 2014 (Flight #8)
• Took off with full fuel to fly to Sterling, but had an instrumentation issue.
• Hobbs: 6.9 to 7.3 = 0.4 hrs
• Shortly after takeoff, all EGTs were in the 1250 range, but the #3 CHT was showing 150 deg. I suspected an instrument issue, or a broken wire. So turned around and landed at 6B6.
• As suspected, the #3 wire had come loose. The screw holding it actually broke off at the head! Apparently it was tight between the intake hose and the head, and the vibration and pressure caused the head to snap off.
• Had to drill a new hole and set a new screw. It was behind the intake manifold, so it was a paint to get to. Took 2 hours to fix, but got it done and buttoned everything up.
