Brief Description:  EAA Tech Councelor

Joe Gauthier, an EAA Tech Councelor, was kind enough to come to my house today to look over the project. We went over log books and paperwork, as well as looking over the airplane. He spent about 1-1/2 hours with me. Overall he was pleased with everything.

The only thing he really had heartburn about was the lack of a fuel drain. He helped me pick out some hardware from AC Spruce, to put a Tee in the low point of my fuel line, with a drain valve that will point down to the lower cowl. My fuel line in that location is so close to the cowl that the drain will probably poke down below the cowl a bit. I'm fine with that. I like having one, but couldn't figure out how to do it without a collator.

Other than that the comments were:
- Few more placards
1. Max fuel quantity next to my sight tube
2. Passenger warning about this being an experimental aircraft (have it, but had not posted it)
3. I have a label on the secondary ignition that says "Coils". He wants something that says "Ignition" as well ("who knows what a coil is," he says).

- He asked how I would know when the tank is empty? I had no ready response other than to look under the panel and see there was no "blue" in the tank. Not sure if that was convincing, but with no electronic fuel flow or fuel level sensor, what else is there in a Sonex?

- Although I was pretty judicious with my zip ties on my wiring, he pointed out a few areas where i could tighten up the bundles a little more.

- My fuel shut-off has a black knob. He suggested red since that is standard for anything to do with fuel.

- I have an opening in the back of my baffles to pass air into the heat muff and into the cabin. He suggested a bug screen. Good idea; I hadn't considered that.

- One of my EGT wires (braided stainless sheath) was in a location that could be chaffed by the baffle. He suggested adding some anti-chafe tape or a plastic tube around it.

- I had not logged my fuel flow tests in the airframe logbook

- I had not signed my logbook
