Brief Description:  Another Engine Start

I ran the engine again today.

A. Sonex Aircraft suggested I could run the engine long enough to check my systems and parameters, and to troubleshoot, as long as I keep all the temps in the normal range.
B. I had a ‘test card’ that I made up to remind me of what to check, and in what order, to be more efficient.
C. The engine started well, again, but there are things to note that worked fine, and others that need to be looked into:
1. The engine idled without dying, when the throttle was brought back to idle. That’s good.
2. The battery was discharging when at low RPMs, but appeared to be charging when at higher RPMs. This is normal, but when I run the engine during flight testing I’ll need to keep an eye on that to be sure.
3. The tachometer is still reading really high. At just over idle it’s showing 5,400 RPM. I thought I had changed a setting in the MGL unit per the suggestion of MGL and Sonex, but I realized that I had set the ROTOR RPM setting, and not the ENGINE RPM. I re-set it to “6” per MGL and Sonex, so I’ll see how that works tomorrow.
4. Oil Pressure: Averaged 54 psi.
5. CHTs (they vary of course, but they never got above 220. Early in the test these are what I wrote):
1 = 170
2 = 154
3 = 165
4 = 159
6. EGTs (they vary of course, but they never got above 1040. Later in the test these are what I wrote):
1 = 960
2 = 1043
3 = 941
4 = 53
The #4 EGT is still only reading ambient temperature. Sonex suggested it might be a bad sensor, but it seems strange to me that it reads ambient temperature and not zero, if it’s a sensor problem.
7. The throttle is sticking when I try to push it forward. When not running, the throttle cable always feels a little “scratchy” when moved. But with the engine running it feels more like it’s bindig.
8. Ignition:
o Turning off the “MAG” switch (primary ignition), shows no change in the engine and no drop in RPMs.
o Turning off the “COILS” switch (
