Brief Description:  Move from basement to garage

Thanks to everyone who came over today to help! Thanks especially to my friend and fellow Sonex builder Keith, who suggested I borrow an engine hoist to do this! Everyone else provided the muscle, finesse and brain power to make it happen. And thanks to my wife for her support, and for cooking the burgers and dogs!

The trick was that the 7'-6" tail had to be rotated 45 degrees to get it through the 6' door. As you'll see in the photos the engine hoist did the trick, allowing us to support the airframe from straps attached to the engine mount. We then rotated the strap as it went over the top of the hoist arm, until the airframe and tail were at 45 degrees. Once the tail was out the door we could straighten it out to roll it out. Well, almost. The ends of the gear axles were just a little too wide to get past the door leaves, so we took the hinge pins out to remove the doors, and then we rolled it out.

We had hoped to start the engine for the first time, but it started to rain, and then we found that my user-settable solid state breaker for the starter switch was set too low and was faulting. We put the plane back in the garage and Keith and I finally got the switch reprogrammed. The starter did turn over, but we weren't getting oil pressure indicated on the electronic gauge. Could be a bad sender, so I will have to borrow a manual gauge to see if I'm actually getting pressure.

However we also noticed smoke coming off the switch/breaker while turning over the starter! The breaker showed a fault (red light on) but was still sending power to the starter switch! That isn't supposed to happen! So I've emailed the manufacturer.

Photos are on this and following pages. I hope I can resolve the electrical and oil problems and try again in the very near future.
