- Took measurements and made a paper pattern. - Test fit the pattern and finalized it. - Spray-cemented the pattern to some .032 aluminum & cut out the shelf. - Used the bending brake to bend the long angled edge, and a small tab at the narrow end. - Used duct tape to hold the shelf in place, then drilled holes from below (I have no skins on the bottom of the plane) with a long drill bit. - Updrilled all the holes. - Removed the shelf and deburred everything. - Located the ELT bracket on the shelf and drilled for the 6-32 screws called for. - Cleco'd the shelf in place. Will rivet tomorrow.
Notes: - The TSO requires the unit to be installed to the aircraft structure, or supports directly attached to the aircraft structure. - The shelf design is very similar to the triangular reinforcing for the seatbelt attac points. - This new shelf sits on the longeron down one whole edge. - The opposite edge is turned down to add stiffness. - The forward part of the new shelf rests on top of the channel that goes from longeron-to-longeron.
