Brief Description:
Finish canopy frame
Today I needed to drill and rivet the corner brackets to the horizontal frame members. With the canopy frame fully in place:
1. I marked the locations of the pilot holes in the horizontal square-section frame members.
2. I took those members off the aircraft and to the workbench, to pilot drill them.
3. Then I re-assembled the whole frame again, and set everything per the dimensions and offsets in the plans.
4. And then I drilled through the pilot holes, into the round steel corner brackets, adding clecos as I went.
5. Then it was back to the bench with the whole assembly, where I took it apart once more, deburred everything, and put it back together (photo 1).
6. Photo 2 is the frame fully assembled, laid loose on the cockpit.
Canopy frame on the bench for updriling and riveting.
Completed frame, in place.
