Started working on the cowl. Made a 5" diameter paper pattern with a split down the middle. Taped them in place, centered on the cowl halves, and then cut them out with my Dremel. Used a file to smooth out the edges.
Per Sonex's suggestion, I rough cut some holes at the air inlets to use as handholds during the installation process.
I'm going to be making the horizontal split modification, so the vertical split will end up getting fiberglassed together.
