Brief Description:  Re-do flywheel assembly

After reading a couple of posts about leaking oil seals caused by oil return holes being clogged when the case halves are put together, I decided to take the flywheel off and check mine.

Now, I would have like to have done this before I put the flywheel on the first time, but there were NO warnings in the Sonex installation instructions, or in my VW book, about these holes. More frustration with the instructions...

If I remove the oil seal then it's trash. So I left it in place and it seems no worse for the wear. I checked the oil holes with a pipe cleaner and both are clear. Yay! You can see them in the case, in photos 2 and 3.

I also had to carefully clean all the RTV sealant off the flywheel pins. That was tricky. It took a lot of pulling with needle nose pliers, cleaning with mineral spirits, and blowing out any potential debris from behind the seal.

So then I put everything back together and torqued the gland nut. It was a pain to do, but I feel better knowing the oil drain holes are free.
