Brief Description:  Install headset jacks

I made up the headset jacks some time ago, but now I installed the box that I installed them in. I decided to put the jacks BEHIND the pilot and passenger, to keep the headset wires from taking up space on the panel, and hanging over the laps of the pilot and passenger. The cockpit is cramped enough as it is.

So I installed them on the structural box beam that the top of the seat pan is fastened to. To keep the headset plugs from being easily hit latterally, I mounted them as low as I could. The box is mounted with 4 screws, rather than rivets, in case I need to remove the box to service the jacks.

Photo #1 shows the box beam, and you can just see the headset wires coming up from behind.

Photo #2 is looking down at the headset jacks. I don't have my lower fuselage skin installed, so it's easy to get to this area to do the work.

Photo #3 is taken from behind the cockpit, looking forward. You can see the box with the jacks in the top, and the screws holding it in place. Although the box hangs down below the beam, the seat pan will be forward of it, so there is no chance of anything hitting the bottom of the box, hanging below the beam.

The 4 headset wires are coming out to the right in photo #3. I have 3 wire ties on them now, but later I will use clamps to secure the wiring to the bottom of the box beam, and then around past the passenger and up to the radio in the instrument panel.

Finally, I labeled the ends of the 4 wires so I know which is which when I get them to the panel.
