The leading edge of the elevator tip needed to be cut back flush with the lead counterweight. I waited until now, to make sure I had some extra material to work with, it needed.

The initial fit was tight, but that's OK. A file and sanding block takes care of that.

You can see how if the stab tip was not held open with the plywood insert, it would be difficult (impossible?) to work with both tips at the same time, for a good fit.

As the counterweight arm moves, the gap is smaller. Here it's still a bit tight.
