Brief Description: Finishe rolling leading edges of control surfaces
Finished rolling the leading edes of the left elevator, and the rudder.
The rudder skin is thinner than the elevator skin, so you would think it would be easier to roll. I found that not to be the case. In fact, that made it more delicate, and easier to dent or to crease.
The problem with the rudder is that the leading edge is a different shape than the elevators. It has a much flatter profile, with a much tighter bend starting at the forward spar. Frankly, I don't know how anyone rolls the buttom tabs of the rudder and doesn't get the dreaded crease at the spar.
I still say these leading edges (needing to be rolled like this) is a very poor design. They could have been designed to be single pieces that could be rounded on the bench, dimpled, and inserted between the skin and the spar.
Just because thousands are flying, doesn't mean it's "right."
