As others have done, I'm splitting my hinge pin and securing it in the middle. Photos 1 and 2 show the 2 pieces of hinge-halves that are drilled out to accept a screw that will go into a nutplate.
Photo 3 shows the nutplate I installed in the flap brace. I used countersunk rivets to attach the nutplate.
