Brief Description:  Fuel tank access

Have I said before what crap the instruction are?! They are.

The instructions say to cut out an access hole per drawing 16A. 16A has NO description of the hole, whatsoever. Last night I cut out the area inside the raised circular ridge. Today I realized the access cover goes on that side, so that raised portion has to go. I put everything back on the drill press with the fly cutter.

Getting a fly cutter to align and work well is more difficult when you have no material for the pilot drill to go through. So with a lot of aligning and a couple of clamps, I got it.

Before I did that I used the raised ridge to position the backing ring, which made it much easier to get the ring in the right place. The instructions said to use the cover to locate the holes in the rib, but that's ridiculous. The ring has all the holes, and it fits nicely around the raised ridge, centered, so builders should use that ridge + the ring, to locate the holes. THEN you can cut out the hole in the rib.

I got all the holes drilled and dimpled for the platenuts. I'll rivet tomorrow.

Oh, yeah. And section "B-B" on 16A is cut in the wrong place. It shows the detail cut through the #8 screw in the platenut. But the detail is through the countersunk RIVET at the platenut. That makes a world of difference when you are trying to figure this thing out.
