Brief Description:  Rivet RIGHT wing ribs to spars

I riveting the ribs to the rear spar, minus the rivets that go in later. Once againk, the Vans instructions sucked.

I'm befuddled by the flap brace on the back of the aft wing spar, near the root. There are holes half hidden by it, and they are supposed to get rivets to hold the ribs. And the piece spans from a stiffener, down to the spar, with the thing just hanging in the air. How do you rivet that (albeit later in the process)?!

Is this supposed to get trimmed or supported? Can I install the AN470 rivets for the ribs and know they wont interfere later?

In the Vans drawings and instructions, things are either buried or missing. We should not have to hunt for answers later in the instructions, for steps we are doing now. The step I'm just working on says to rivet the ribs to the rear spar. It says nothing about "except where parts A and B will be installed later." The instructions don't make a simple note to be sure to countersink the 4 rivets at the outboard rib. It's buried in a detail that is VERY busy to read. When riveting the rear spar together, they don't tell you to install or not install the hinge brackets. There is a one liner several pages later, after the tank instructions, to install them. A simple "install these later" would go a long way. Simple additions to most of the instructions would go a long way. Some of the instructions for the main ribs come way after the instructions about building the tanks.

This is a popular kit. I would expect they would make some updates over time, rather than most builders noting that the instructions are overall poor, and soldiering on. It's expensive and time consuming to make mistakes that could have been easily avoided with a little extra ink.

Hopping off of my soap box, now.
