Brief Description: Rolled some elevator leading edges
Rolled 2 of the 4 tabs of the left elevator. Nate Jackson (also building an RV-7) helped me figure out what I was doing wrong.
Essentially, don't do what the instructions say. Don't roll the surface that is against the work table. Instead, roll the surface that is above the work table. You will need vice grips on the dowel, and will need to pull UP on the skin as you roll it, to avoid bending the skin at the spar. After you get it bent most of the way, use your hands against the dowel to help roll the center section of the tab.
A 3/4" dowel ended up working the best (photo #2). I had been using a 1-1/4" dowel (photo #3), thinking that was closer to the final radius. The problem was, that the larger dowel left no room to OVER bend the tab. It needs to bend beyond it's finished diameter, so it can spring back to the final.
