So this is one of those tasks where there just has to be a better way. I followed the instructions (bending blocks, then low pressure rivet gun), and the metal around the bends looks like crap. I'm not building a new elevator just for that, but I wish I could. I feel like anything I do to try to smooth out the crap, will just make things worse.
A small, riveted rib/closure would be a better way to do this in my opinion. Introducing all these bends is asking for cracks in the future. Time will tell.
