Brief Description:  RIGHT elevator counter weight not salvageable

When I scratch-built my Sonex, if I messed up a part I just made a new one. With a kit, you can't do that. Rats.

I was not able to salvage the counterweight and the two ribs. I broke another bit in the lead, even going super slow and using drilling lubrication.

The problem is that I was trying to drill a pilot hole with a 1/8" bit, and it was just too weak if everything didn't go perfectly. I guess it's best to drill the #12 hole right away, and not bother with a pilot hole.

So I ordered 3 new parts: E-714 (lead), and ribs E-703 and E-704. Let's see how long it takes to get them!

So if anyone reads this in the future, the lead drills fine if you use the final size bit. It may be soft, but it's dense, and will snag a drill bit damn easily. Go S-L-O-W !!!! Do NOT use an air drill, and turn the bit as slowly as possible. Use lubricating oil.
