Polished one side of drive plates to test the recommended Nuvite aluminium polish. Used a pheumatic buffer.
The polish is a non-subtracting formula. Meaning that it does not remove any material. It merely bends over the molecular spikes in the aluminium surface.
The compounds used was F9, C and S. Each one increasing finish in succession.
If you were to paint the airplane, it will add 20+ lbs of weight to the plane. At 1050 GVW, it is a significant amount.
The polish will only about 1/2 lbs (probably less) to the airplane. Good news for Joe!
Recommended BEFORE installing rivets. If you polish after rigeting, the ribs can stand out in the shine.
