Brief Description:  Removal of Hinge Brackets.

I emailed Van's a few days ago about the SB-437-4 Snap Bushing not fitting in the hole in the bulkhead and the response was to enlarge the hole to 7/16 for the bushing to fit. Ordered a replacement from Aircraft Spruce and am waiting for it to arrive. After looking at the figures in pages 10-04 and 10-05, I noticed that the Hinge Brackets I had installed were not correctly positioned. The figures show the Hinge Brackets pointing outwards and mine were pointing straight. I had installed each on the wrong side (i.e., left was put on the right and vice versa). I emailed Van's again to ask if what I had done was acceptable. I was told to follow the plans. This meant I had to drill out 12 AN470AD4-6 rivets. This was not going to be an easy task since I positioned the manufactured heads inboard to make it easy using the pneumatic squeezer. The regular size electric or air drills would not fit in the space between the 2 brackets for me to drill holes in the manufactured heads. I was able to use my cheap right angle air drill from Harbor Freight to drill out most of the rivets. For the 4 rivets close to the bend (angle), I had drill through the shop heads from the outboard size. It took 2.5 hours to fix the error. Another lesson learned. I think I'm getting good with drilling out rivets, though. I don't have enough rivets left to complete this phase and will have to wait for the package from Aircraft Spruce to arrive.
