Brief Description:  Put retractable gear on work bench

I haven't been putting my car in the garage all summer since the fuselage grew in size which forced me to move the work bench into the center bay. With cold weather coming on, I wanted to get the car space back. I found an idea on VAF.net where a guy put retractable casters on his bench.

I copied his idea and adapted the mounting for my bench. I took a 4x4 and cut it in two 30" pieces and secured the double wheeled casters on each end. I then clamped the assembly in placed and screwed on the hinges. Next, I cut a 2x2 to length, drilled a hole through it and the bench top cross member and used a carriage bolt to secure it.

The table end is lifted up and then use a foot to put the 4x4 down and into place. Each 2x2 is then pulled down in to position to secure the casters. Repeat this for the other end.

It is now easy to roll the heavy bench over next to the fuselage and out of the way so I can have my car in the garage. When I work on the project I will back my car out, roll the bench to the open space and drop the gear.
