Tonight after work while in Traverse City, I headed north along Grand Traverse Bay and came across the Woolsley Airport. No one was around, but it has a cool little terminal building, if you can call it that. It has a covered platform on its roof that is a perfect spot for watching airplanes take off and land.
Both of its runways are grass and were in very good condition. I imagine this little field gets some traffic on the weekends, but not a soul was around tonight. That was ok with me though, airports are almost spiritual when you walk them alone.
I could definately see making a stop to land in Woolsley after I have the RV-7 flying. It is only a few miles from a casino, the Grand Traverse Lighthouse, Traverse City, and some other great sights. It would be a very cool day trip or even a weekend with Diane.
