Well.... apparently I need to work on my patience expertise!! As I was torquing up the second head, the final bolt on the final torque setting gave a loud "pow" as the threads stripped out. I was shocked, the final torque value is only 25 pounds. What happened??? After a call or two with Dan Weseman of SPA, my threads were sticking up way too far, allowing the grade 8 tall nuts to spin down below the level of the threads that could hold it. What's wrong? Why are the head bolts too long? Could it be the cylinders were somehow machined too short, the cylinder heads milled too deap? More investigation is necessary... this is the first of this type of problem for SPA. I just lucky I guess??
