My Savannah will be IFR capable, although the plane is really sealed for those rainy nights ;-) While the plane isn't really a serious IFR platform, I'd like to be able to get my IFR rating with my own plane, that would save some serious money! Plus I would be able to punch through simple overcasts that would cancel a VFR cross country. With the upswept tail, mounting the anntennae on the bottom works out well, only an extreme AOA puts it in danger of a ground strike, even then the skid should sheild it. However, all I had was the thin skin of the bottom of the fuselage to mount it own, so I fabricated a backing stiffener to give it the necessary strength. It worked out pretty well, its seems quite stiff.
