Brief Description:  painting inside of cowl, test WonderFil & spray gu

Painted the inside of the engine cowling with Dupont Nason Ful-Poxy epoxy primer (same used for interior and panel paint). (October update - I ended up using this primer for exterior too)

I tested out the Lohle Wonderfil by using it on half of the one cowling. It works. Later I found out that virtually all pinholes can be filled in a single application by just taking the time to rub it in 100% of the surface. You can see any spots you miss after it dries. We'll see, but I'm thinking pinholes are conquered.

As Ron Alexander says, with the kind of emphasis that let's you know that to ignore it is to mess up, PRACTICE SPRAYING on some practice surfaces. Right. My cowlings are part of my practice. Not really knowing how to move the gun around some of the irregular corners and stuff, I did a dry walk thru with gun. That seems to be a very good practice to adopt going forward. One of the challenges with the newer coatings seems to be that they are 1 coat or a cross coat, or a medium wet followed immediately by full wet. In any case, it's not like mist a coat on, mist it again and fix minor errors, then give a coat or 2 more like you would with dope or lacquers with tons of volitale solvents in it.

I got a few runs but they were almost on purpose to see what I could get away with. No real harm on inside of engine cowl. I sliced them off with a razor later. I'll call it accelerated practice...

Painted stuff looks nice after looking at all that pink crap for the last 2 or 3 years.

Gun setup. After some orange peel on my first panel shoot, I tried to work harder on gun setup. The key here is to come up with a defineable, repeatable process for a test pattern. First time I put up some cardboard pieces - too irregular. Next, the kraft paper I use to cover my benches - too absorbent. I got a roll of decent masking paper and hung it vertically. Hold the gun a handspan away, square it up, press trigger once very deliberately. Check results. That's the process - but the first time I'll act
