How to fix it. Well, I could let it cure, sand (!!!!!) and re-coat. Or I could recoat now. The tech sheet says recoating without sanding can be done within 16 hours - that's roughly 2:00pm today. But will I just put another coat on a surface I don't like as it is? Decided to play around a bit and concluded that I could Scotchbrite it to knock it down a bit knowing that without a block and sandpaper I couldn't completely flatten it. But I would have a partially scuffed, slightly improved surface to recoat withing 16 hours.
So I went at it.
I cleaned up, warmed the paint as well as I could and re-shot the wing. Results were much better. Still a bit more orange peel that I would like but interestingly, the bottom where I started was noticebly better than the top where I ended. Now I think I getting at the core issue - temperature. It's the only variable I have to control viscosity. I'm going to do what it takes to make sure my object is 70F+ and my paint 80F+. In fact, I'm going to aim for a nominal 75F and 90F respectively assuming cooler ambient conditions. If the other wing turns out a lot better.... well I may have to go back with the sandpaper.
I didn't know it was possible to dream about paint.
