Brief Description:  lower center section

many hours of filling and fairing the lower section - most of it around the gear doors . Using west system micro and fairning 407 fillers to bring all surfaces true . I choose to do this prior to glassing the lower surface . there are arguments both ways on this practice . The main concern is sanding into the structure when feathering the filler. My method was to scuff sand the birch as normal prior to gluing for a clean surface and then rolling on a coat of west epoxy with some pigment added ( i used gray) . Then 80 grit the surface for good adhesion prior to adding filler ect. This provides me with a no brainer visual stop sanding referance . If the pigmented epoxy becomes translucent and you can see wood grain its time to stop sanding! The easiest places make errors in judgment is on the edges of the skin trailing edge ect. After truing most of the lower section I laid on 2" strips of 2 oz cloth on all edges - trailing edge gear door openings and outboard edges . All of these surfaces will experience some form of abuse from chaffing so a primary and secondary layer of cloth would ultimately help .
