Polishing aluminum can give it the appearance of chrome plating. The skids were removed from the airframe and rough sanded first with 400 grit sandpaper and then 600 grit sandpaper. Not all of the deep scratches were removed as I would have had to remove too much material and I figure the skids are going to get scratched and abused during use anyway. After intial sanding, the skids were rough polished with a firm polishing pad and compound using an air die grinder. The skids were then given a final polish using a fine pad and polishing compound.
