Brief Description:  Trim Fin Construction

The trim fin assembly was put together and taken apart numerous times. Each hole was carefully layed out and drilled. Alignment tabs were constructed and clecoed in place. The tail skid had to be shortened by 1/4" as it would absolutely not go through the bottom tail fin skin without doing so. It was also noted that the end of the tail skid was out of round and would put mild creases in the skin when trying to force it through. These had to be carefully massaged out of the skin with the palm of my hand. The end of the tail skid was shaped back in to being round as best as possible. Eventually I will probably drill a hole in a metal block, cut it in half and place this die in a press and reform the end of the skid. The area where the horizontal tail fin tube exits the vertical skins was not cut out exactly, so a doughnut cover plate was made to cover up the hole which should look nice and give more support to this area once it is riveted in place.
