Brief Description:  Fabricate trim servo brackets (11-8)

I was planning to skip section 11 (Emp assembly) and start the wings this week, but in the process of cleaning up I saw there were a few things I could do. In section 8 it has you fabricates some brackets and assemble the trim servo mount and control cables. Working on this will help clean up some of the last parts on the shelf for the Emp. Plus, I have a friend who’s building a -12 and wants to see the next time I prime some parts, so this will give me an opportunity to prime. Anyway, making the bell crank brackets was easy enough. I used the drill press to hold the work and I just sneaked up on the final size, starting with a #40 drill bit. The only tricky thing here is that the rivet hole and the pivot hole need to be in the right spot and both brackets need to line up. Starting off with a small drill bit I was able to place the hole in just the right spot, so it should line up well. For all the brackets I started with the holes, since that was the most critical part, then cut it down as directed. For the control cable brackets it asks for a 7/16” diameter hole. I tried a step drill, but it ended up a little oversized…probably due to vibration while drilling…even in the drill press. So, I went out and bought 7/16 drill bit and then very patiently kept up sizing the bit size from #40 to 7/16” and that worked well. Next, I finished up the other parts and now I’m ready to prime.
