Brief Description:  Rolling rudder fwd edges (7-11)

I did some reading on this and went with the belt and suspenders approach. I used 1-1/4 PVC pipe (mostly because that what I already had lying around) and then drilled #40 holes using the fwd edge as a guide. I then applied some gorilla tape (made here in Cincinnati) to the fwd edge and attached the PVC pipe with a cleco at each end. I then pushed the tape down onto the PVC pipe and attached the rest of the clecos through the tape. Then with a vice grip on one side and my hand on the other I proceeded to twist the pipe/skin. I only did one section at a time as recommended in the instructions working from top down. This worked pretty well, you just have to make sure not to let it bend to much right at the transition between the main skin and the fwd tab. I taped down the trail edge to the table so I could pull fwd on the pie as I twisted it, which worked really well. Twisting will only get you so far. Once you’ve twisted as much as possible, then you need to remove all the clecos and remove the tape (don’t let the tape sit for too long or it will be like unpacking a vans crate). With the fwd edge now partially ben it’s fairly easy to finish bending by hand, just work a little at a time and keep the pressure even until you get the shape you want. I did need to have Cyndi help me when trying to line up the two halve and get a cleco in. Next step is to final size the holes and pull the rivets, then onto the counterweight.
