Well trying to do a little catch up on the log here. I primed all the hardware associated to the rudder assembly. I did not mask the bearing surfaces in the rudder horn, but I figure the small amount that got in there would be easy to remove. After doing a bit of research on the different methods to attach the trailing edge of the rudder, I decided to clamp it down with a piece of steel angle iron. I first attached a 5 ft long section of angle iron to the work bench edge, trying to keep it flush with the surface. I then used one of the rudder skins to match drill a few holes into the angle iron…enough that I could use my hole jig to drill the rest…trying to reduce the risk of oversizing any holes. Once all the holes were drilled on the drill press, I mounted the angle iron to the edge of the workbench and sanded everything flush. One thing I didn’t account for was the rudder horn (but more on that later).
