After dinner went back out and figured out how to flare the tubing.
I have three connections so far the don't have enough straight run to put on the sleeve/nut and then flare it.
Problem arises because the nut can go around the curve but the sleeve can only move along absolutely straight tubing.. Start by making the curve which requires extra tubing and cut to length. Next put the sleeve on. Then put the the sleeve (wrapped in masking tape) into the holder. Place over the vise and then clamp the flaring tool fixture in the vise. It isn't as pretty or easy as straight tubing but it works acceptably.
The main takeaway was that I wasn't putting enought thought into the placement of the various items and ended up with ridiculous bends.
