Brief Description: GPS and Transponder installation
I started today by wiring the Garmin 496 GPS. Then I proceeded to the Garmin GTX-330 mode S transponder. The transponder tray back plate would not fit. Investigation revealed the tray subpanel cutout upper support angle was set too tight so the tray was slightly bowed narrower. I drilled out the rivets on the support angle, fitted the transponder tray back plate and relocated the support angle with new holes and attach rivets. Then I proceeded to wire the transponder. Wiring completed I slid the transponder into the tray, locked it into position, turned on the power and switched on the transponder and it turned on okay. Now I just have to install the transponder antenna and coaxial cable to complete the installation.
